About Us

Conwy Thunder Wheelchair Basketball Club only started sessions in November 2011 but has already started raising awareness of an extremely exciting sport in the local area and beyond.

The Thunder welcomed fifteen people to their first session on November 3rd 2011 and were officially launched on February 2nd 2012 by Colin Price, former captain of GB Men’s wheelchair basketball team.

The club are looking for junior and senior players of all abilities to come down and get involved. You do not need to have experience within wheelchair sport and the club have a range of basketball wheelchairs which new members can use.

Conwy Thunder has a dedicated committee, team of coaches and volunteers that can guarantee a warm welcome to anybody interested in wheelchair basketball, whether you are playing for the first time or are a seasoned professional.

The club has ambitious aims and strive to provide a fun, social environment for all club members, as well as supporting those players who have the talent and commitment through the performance pathways all the way to the Paralympics.

 

2013 Community Cup -

We are hosting our inaugural Community Cup at Creuddyn Leisure Centre on Saturday August 10th 2013, 12pm – 3pm, and you have the opportunity to enter a team!

Wheelchair basketball can be played by disabled and non disabled people and is an extremely inclusive team sport and a fantastic way to build team morale, challenge you and have a laugh!

So if your colleagues, friends or team mates would like to get together, enjoy yourself and have a shot at winning the first ever Conwy Thunder Community Cup then please get in touch.

The Community Cup will not inlcude any seasoned wheelchair basketball players so you won't be coming up agains experts! Obviously we would welcome disabled players with lower limb impairments such as spina bifida, cerebral palsy, amputees, brittle bones etc to try this fantastic sport for the first time.

You may have a squad with a maximum of 10 named players with any 5 players on court at any one time. There will be two groups that will play a round robin across half a court with the winners and runners up of each group progressing to semi-finals, a 3rd/4th play off and a final played on a full court. Matches will be 10 minutes long and the winning team will be awarded the first ever Conwy Thunder WBC Community Cup!
