5 x Paralympian Creates a Storm Launching Conwy Thunder Wheelchair Basketball Club

Conwy Thunder WBC were officially launched on February 2nd 2012 by Colin Price, former captain of GB Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team at Creuddyn Leisure Centre.

Colin, who represented Great Britain for 22 years and captained the GB Men’s team who won silver at the Atlanta Paralympics in 1996 was joined by Mike Hayes, former Paralympian and current captain of Celtic Warriors, Charles Fryer-Stevens, a current GB Junior Player, and Conwy Thunder Club officials in welcoming over 50 guests to Conwy Thunder’s launch event.

Wheelchair basketball is one of the leading Paralympic sports and will be one of the most popular events at London 2012. The sport is played by both disabled and non disabled people and has a classification system in place based on functional ability ensuring it is inclusive to all.

Conwy Thunder WBC are the only club of its kind in Conwy and will play a big part in the development of the sport in North Wales. The Thunder train weekly at Creuddyn Leisure Centre between 7pm – 9pm and welcome both junior and senior players to sessions.

Colin Price said "As an ex Paralympic Athlete to see a wheelchair sports club set up in Conwy is fantastic for young disabled children in the area. The benefits of taking part in sports are only positive, and who knows someone from Conwy may one day represent Great Britain at future Paralympics".
